.:ELECTION:.
ahhhh... today's election day! i'm so excited! i don't really love either candidate, but in picking a candidate i am really voting for his (possible) staff, new judges and for the party (sort of). i can't say that i hate bush, because i really don't. i don't agree with some of his policies, but he has a right to them and apparently a good percent of the country agrees with him. i can't say that i hate kerry, because i really don't. what happened years ago in vietnam happened years ago, and i really don't care all that much. what i do care about is that neither candidate has a big lead. the country is evenly divided. some can look at that and say "bush has been in office 4 years and has not even convinced more than half of the country that he's good for the job". i, however, want to focus on the fact that bush is actually still maintaining half of the country. he's doing enough to tide over half of the country. and kerry has the other half of the country. america doesn't hate bush enough to elect kerry, nor does it love bush enough to ensure him a victory.
and all the while, the rest of the world moves on. china is blasting full speed ahead, the power of the EU is on the rise, russia is moving backward. as we sit in our bubble, calculating all the ways there could be an electoral tie, another nation will surpass us as the leading world superpower. maybe that's a logical fallacy, but maybe that's not. sure, this election is incredibly important and exhilirating, but we cannot become so divided as to lose our position as the #1 in the world. if we drop like our olympic mens basketball team, we'll still be on the winners' stage, but we won't have the gold.
shoot for the gold.
